Mark, thanks for your post, I too would love to know Jerrys tuning here. Utube is a great learning tool, Being able to see Jerry's neck positioning is invaluable reference material for learning, once we know the tuning we are on our way, I notice a lot of reverse slants though, a tad scary !!
There are some classic Byrd licks here, and on VIDEO !!! So come on you pros's give us 'yung' uns a chance to learn and give us Jerry's tuning, this can only help us on our way.
By the way Hoopiis opening licks in 12th street rag is still a mystery to me, as is the tuning, the hammer on/pull off seems to point to a very definitve tuning, Iv heard players 'mimic' it' but it never really quite sounds the same, any info appreciated. Thanks as always |

Wow!
THat killed me. I love how Jerry Byrd spends as little time as possible looking at his instrument. THanks for posting this. |

Could be Jerry's C6th/A7 tuning (C6th with a C# on the 6th string) but the runs looked to me like standard C6th ... ECAGEC. |

HI Dan Jerry was unreal huh?
I liked the fact that when Marty sang Jerry somehow found the perfect licks to compliment the vocals without overplaying.
Glad you guys enjoyed it. |

They must have begun to make 7 string models earlier than I thought. I thought Sol never played more than 6. |

That was fast. Additional strings almost as soon as they went electric. Or did they start even sooner? |

Thanks. You learn something new every day. I had thought the 7 and 8 string tunings came much later. |
