Hi Folks,
I tried to ask in Kevin Brown's thread about 7 or 8 strings, but didn't get any answers, so I thought I'd ask again.
Has anyone here tried these strings?
They seem quite nice, and they have several ready made sets for tunings I'd like to try(some time in the future, when I get good...  )

| I use these strings and GHS,They are wonderful sounding and lasting steel strings. Not to bright and not to dark sounding.Nice even tone for my taste.And I use Don Helms tuning.E6 and B13,sometimes C6. |

My National Dynamic is tuned to A6, and I see they have a set for that tuning. I've thought of ordering a few sets, and trying them. I will have to see over the weekend, when I get home...

| I just bought 5 sets for C6th . Scotty's string packs, but ordered them from juststrings.com for like $5.75 a set. Scotty's site has them at $10 a set. The SIT semi flat strings sound great and have low bar noise. |

SIT's are as fine a string as there is IMO. I buy some from Charlie Stepp of Derby Steel and/or Malcolm Kirby of Discount String Whse. I also use Geo. L's and GHS. I can't tell a whit's worth of difference among the major brands.
Good service, availability of sets in your desired gauges and compound along with a fair price are most important to me.

Thanks guys for the replies! I'll look into the other brands suggested, too... What draws me to the SIT's is the ready made sets for different tunings, and that they have just the tunings I would like to try...

I have used strings from Scotty's for C6th on an 8 string (fender D8 and T . One thing that is important to note is that the string set is not ACEGACEG for C6. You can buy a set but use a .010 or .011 for the high G and get rid of the low G.
The strings are great but a little pricey at Scotty's. I will say they have great customer service and I just purchsed a few sets for A6, C6 and E13.
I have bought strings from juststrings as well but they don't carry learning materials, etc. (hence "juststrings"). |

Hey Scott, I'm from the old school, and we used nothing but plain strings for the 3rd (on a six string guitar). Just out of curiosity, what are the string gauges you use for a particular tuning?????
I have to buy 22 plain strings often as some string sets come with only wound!!!!!

I used SIT semi-flat for about five years until I played a few Rickenbackers at Rick Aiello's house. The strings on his guitars were very smooth had a nice feel on my hands and they sounded great. They were/are D'Addario Chromes. You have to get them through JustStrings.com and you have to assemble your set from singles.
I been using these for about six months and I'm very happy with them.
One of the things I didn't like about SIT strings was that I had rub fine grade steel wool over the wound strings prior to installation. I found that the strings had a scratchy sound and rough feel for awhile when they were new.

Hi, and thanks everyone for continuing to enlighten me!
I appreciate all the people who are willing to give their opinions, so that others can form one of their own.
I had a look at the Jagwire strings (at the top of the page), and they seemed nice, too. I'm not sure how much I can afford at the moment, so I might try SIT from JusStrings because they were a bit cheaper...

I put 'em on at home, and then play them for an hour or two, and they're great! Break in just as sweet as punkin' pie. But, see... I HAVE to do that, because I need all the practice I can get!!!
That said, I do plan to try the Jag's sometime soon.

Thanks again for all the info you guys are willing to share!
I decided in the end to support the forum, and ordered three Jagwire sets for C6th/A6th. The built-in shipping seemed too good a deal compared to the high shipping cost on JustStrings.
Just thought I'd let you know.
