That strange word is Leavitt/Alkire mixed!

I have been tinkering with the extended Leavitt tuning some more and wanted to add some chromatic intervals to it on the top. Checked out some tunings on line and saw that the Alkire tuning has a bunch of chromatics in it.

Anyone here ever take a 12 or 14 string guitar and combine these into Leavitt on the bottom and the chromatic part of the Alkire on the top?? The possibilities of chords and melodic potential is VERY interesting.

Bill, you are a madman. There is no other explanation.

And darn entertaining too!

I can't figure out either tuning, so both on one neck would cause my brain to melt.

Bill, You might find the comments by Robert Schaefer interesting. Go to "Eharpplayers.com" and click on biographies and then Robert Schaefer. Bob had a fourteen string pedal guitar that he tuned to the Alkire tuning. Graham Griffith now has that guitar and uses it the same way. Also, read the bio of Ron Scheidler and Claude Brownell. Very interesting what can be done with these tunings.

Thanks Duane. I had run across that site when I was looking for some info on the Alkire tuning, but I did not read much about the players. Very interesting and I am very interested in mixing up the two tunings.

Looks like some fine info there for that tuning. Could not read it even after enlarging it. Is there any info like that on the Leavitt tuning.

Thanks Ed, I have changed my profile to reflect the new email address. In case it does not show up correctly it is, DSolley@satx.rr.com.

Duane...did that info do good, or just add confusion to the mix?

Many years back I did an analysis of the Alkire and Leavitt tuning structures...can't remember if I posted them on the Forum or not...a search in the Archives might show something. They were published in someones club "letter", but I can't remember whos.

Ed, I really appreciate the info but I must admit I do not know how to use it - yet! I am a real novice on the steel and am trying to learn several things at once, i.e., music theory, the Eharp, terminology, etc., so this info will probably be on my desk for quite awhile before I know how to benefit from it. However, thanks again for sending it.
