Even though I was only 10 years old when this song came out, I somehow missed it altogether. I thought I'd heard all the songs from the 60's, but I guess not. I heard this one on the radio the other day, and I was amazed that I don't remember ever hearing it. Supposedly it got to #13 on the US charts and #1 in Europe. |

I played that song about twice a night, seven nights a week for around six months in a top forty band when it was on the charts. I can't recall how the tune went now but I do remember it had a real cool guitar hook that was a tad challenging to play. |

Bubble Puppy were label-mates with 13th Floor Elevator on (I think it was) International Records from Texas. The label went out of biz, and Bubble Puppy and 13FE lps were being sold for $25-30 and even more.
There would be mysterious 'finds' of 'overstock' from time to time, but the original ones were quite rare they got little airplay, and were 'legendary' in 1975.
I sold lots of them, but don't think I ever listened to BP. |

Ooh. Now that's a name I haven't heard in over 30 years. I saw them perform a couple of times down here. They were very good. I might have their lp in the back of my closet with all my other forgotten treasures.
Here's an "official" web site:

That's a classic psychedelic guitar song, right up there with "Seven And Seven Is" by Love and "Too Much to Dream" by Electric Prunes. |

David Fore was the drummer in BP, and is the man Chris S. mentions in his post on the Eggmen.
Todd Potter was the excellent lead guitarist, and is still around Austin. I ran into him at the fishing tackle store just recently, after too long of not seeing him. His brothers Jerry and Travis worked in the Michael Martin Murphey band when I played steel with MMM, around 73-74.
Rod Prince was the other guitarist and I don't know what happened to him, though Todd told me when I ran into him and I've forgotten. I think he might be in the construction business. Roy Cox was the bass player. I recall he was kind of flaky about paying on his account when I worked at the music store in the mid-80's.
Bubble Puppy had a renaissance of sorts when the re-formed in the 70's under the name "Demian." Not much commercial success came from that endeavor, I believe.
EDIT: oooppss... I just saw Lee's post with the website link. I got most of my recollections right, it turns out! I forgot about Todd's band "Sirius" with George Rarey in the 80's. George was a great guitarist as well. At that time, Todd got a nasty bite on the shoulder by a Brown Recluse Spider, and was worried his playing would be affected, but he turned out okay. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
