Just wondering how many steelers out there are ham
radio operators? I love the hobby and have been
a ham about 13 years... starting form my novice ticket up.. I love CW on 40 And 80m and send and recive about 22 wpm... Any others players out there into the hobby?
I think the key helps my wrist action on the steel..

The super-regenerative receiver (based on a 6SN7) that appears in ancient issues of the ARRL handbook was my grade school challenge. Went thru a lot of 5U4's whilst building power supplies. Never got the ticket but played with the gear a lot...

I got too busy with steel practice and playing to rebuild my vertical antenna when it went down then second time in a (typical) wind storm a couple of years ago. Preferred 10 and 15 meter DX when the bands are in.

30 years as WD5CBO General Class although I haven't been active in a long time.

CW was my favorite and I worked 40 and 15m a bunch in my younger days. I had a Kenwood TS440 in my Siverado Pickup with a multiband ant mounted in the bed.

Those were some fun days and I spent gobs of money on that addiction too.

There are many TV stars as well as country stars who are into ham radio.

One that comes to mind is Patty Lovelace and if I'm not mistaken I think Barbara Mandrell is too.

Years ago, in Ohio and WVA, I was WB8WAP. I always enjoyed CW, too, Mike. 22 wpm is pretty darned good. At one time, I was good for about 20 wpm, but I am a bit rusty now.

To add to Dick Wood's list, I read that Ronnie Milsap has been an amateur radio operator for many years.

73,
John L.

I am not active. ( W4IWJ ) My Dads call sign from the fifties and sixties. I was operating mostly on 440. It reminded me of CB. The same old Anti-War popaganda from a local would be. Same old anti-war arguments from the 70s Self righouteous BS. A union member who spouted what the union said. Same as my ex-sister-in-law a union teacher. Except for their sex you could swap the two and you would hear the same self serving arguments (Propaganda) I rode a motorcycle too. The last two I had were damaged along with me in auto accident. I love the hobby, but I have decided God was tired of me using that as an excuse not to atten church on Sunday and reformed me.
