| One thought I've often wondered about is do you think any of the guys like Emmons, Day, Green, Hughey, Rugg, Drake, Byrd, Helms, Chalker and several others had any idea of the impact they would have on future steel players at the time they were in the studio playing the steel parts on songs. Even today, here in 2007, players are listening to and trying to learn things like the 63' Night Life intro, the early 70's stuff on the Conway records, Hanks Sr. intros, Ernest Tubb's intros and many, many more. To me, things like this are steel guitar treasures and I personally want to thank all of our steelers, past and present for the things they have given players like myself and so many others, that are following the greatest music in the world featuring STEEL GUITARS! THANKS GUYS! |

You have that correct! To the vast majority of the world this stuff is of only secondary or tertiary importance. But to some of us, things like, for instance, TB's steel break in "Together Again", or [name favorite steel break here] are the heart and soul of what we do musically.
I've kinda always wanted to issue the same kind of "thank you" message to the steel community at large, and especially to all of the Great Ones, who have given me so much material to learn and entertainment to enjoy. |

| Billy, I couldn't agree with you more. The things you are talking about still give me goose bumps when I hear them. Great stuff from great players. Jerry Bryd told one time " I wasn't to create anything, hell I was just trying to make a living". I think thats true with most of the players back when. I still get out some of those things from time to time. It always brings a smile to my face. Best to all, Bobby |

| I don't think they were trying to play to impress,but rather to make a living. They also played or still play from the heart. Jimmy Day was a great example of that. |
