This Emmons is for sale on U.K E bay.
It looks spurious in that the seller has only registered a few days ago,the sale is similar to another a few months ago which was a scam.
The wall socket is USA type although the guitar is supposed to be in Scotland.
Does anyone recognise the foto?

Billy,
If there is someway you can get a profile on this individual,other than what he posted, I think that would be the way to go.Maybe post in "Steel Players"for someone in his area, and email them privately about him.

This is one of the problems with E-bay. He could be a very honest, bedroom picker, just trying to sell off his steel to pay bills, or he could be a scammer.
Scammers usually don't know anything about the item they are claiming to sell. The text in the ad would lead one to believe he knows what he's talking about. So, try asking him a question that only a player would know how to answer...like what's the copedent, or what changes are on the knee lever pulls...get the idea? If he gives you a good, straight answer, I think he's probably legit.
But, there's never a guarentee of anything on E-bay, so we have to try to out-think the crooks as best we can.

Hi Billy. I do a little bit of buying and selling on ebay (my would probably say too much buying). The only way I would buy a high ticket item from someone with 0 feedback is if I could pick it up in person and pay at that time. The seller could be legit and a nice guy, but with no history of transactions you just don't know.

Guys,
That guitar used to belong to me!! I actually had it posted for sale here on the Forum last year. No one wanted it, so I sold it on eBay and those are some of my photos.
Take a look for yourself and you can see it's the very same guitar. The 120V wall outlet you see is on the wall of my loft where I used to live in Tigard, Oregon. I shipped the guitar to an active (gigging) steeler in Germany and as far as I know it's still there being played.
This is not the first time I've seen photos of this guitar listed on eBay since I sold it. Last time it was on the USA eBay. This guy even cut and pasted some of my descriptive text just like the last guy did. Maybe he's even the same guy! Last time I saw it, I filed a formal complaint and eBay canciled the auction right after they saw what was going on.
I hope no one ends up being taken for a ride here! I'm going to report this to eBay again in hopes they will put this guy out of business.

I did not at any time consider bidding on this guitar.
I do not want any Steel brothers to get burned.
Fortunately there are many other forumites on both side of the pond who are of the same mind.

A very astute observation Billy. There's no way that photo was taken in Scotland, and Lynn has explained that now. Thanks for bringing it up. You've saved someone from being defrauded. |
