Bob Wills with Bobby Koefer on steel.
He doesn't look at the fretboard !! ??
Wonderful solo.
Any ideas of the tuning of the neck next to the body ?

According to the Townsend book that is Cotton Whittington. He also played on the Sept. 51 MGM sessions. |

Talk about rubbing your nose in it. Bobby Koefer pulls off that solo without even a glance at his steel. Including the chimes! _________________ Time flies like an eagle

Bobby,
do you know about the tuning of his guitar?
That inside neck sound is amazing.

Thomas, I never talked to Bobby about his tunings, but now that you have brought it up I think I should have. Next time we are together I will be sure and find out. Bobby |

Bobby's tunings are on Scotty's Website. scottysmusic.com
The inside neck is basically A6 as I recall. The middle neck is a Cm of some sort, and E13 on the outside. He only uses 7 strings per neck, I think.

Thanks Pete, I'll try out the Cm6 tuning. Maybe that's what I'm looking for.

the inside neck on that clip is his A6:
E
C#
A
F#
E
C#
Bd
The low four strings in this tuning make an F# 7th.
His outside neck in the clip is the standard swing E13:
E
C#
B
G#
F#
D
G#
E |

That A6/F#7 tuning is analogous to Byrd's C6/A7, albeit with a 5th on top. |

...the inside neck part of that solo has to me a B11 sound. |

Hmm, it does sound like B11, in which case his 5th string is dropped half a step...
