I was wondering when Johnny Cash's first performance was, I went up to see Shot Jackson in Duluth, Mn. in 1956 to talk about getting a Sho-Bud, On that show was, Roy Acuff & Johnny Cash, I recall Mr. Cash being very nervous, & wondered if that was his first show? anyone know? Thanks! Al Udeen

Thanks for posting that. I wonder where that was.

A side story about JR, in 1962/63 I was stationed in the Air Force at Keesler AFB with a Tech Sergeant that was Johnny's NCOIC when he was in the Air Force. He said that when it came time, he had to give Johnny the standard reenlistment talk. He said "Johnny told me he was going to get out and become a country music singer and he is now a millionaire and I'm still a Tech Sergeant".

Cash had been performing with the "Tennessee Three" as early as Aug. of '54, but his first "major appearance" is generally considered to be the one he did with Elvis at the Overton Park Shell, in Memphis, on Aug. 5th, 1955 (a little over a month after his first Sun release, "Hey Porter").
