I've played through a Blues JR, but Hadn't played through a Classic 30. I love the tube tone I get from the JR, how about the classic 30, anybody compared them? Thanks

Terry

Bill Lawrence told me that he thinks the Peavey Classic series are among the best-designed amps of the last thirty years - my Classic 30 is a real workhorse, that's for sure. Ken Fox and other amp technicians have said that the newest series of Fenders have some physical layout problems that may affect their overall reliability - there was a thread about the Steel King recently where Ken laid in with his opinion.

They both sound good,have 12" speakers and have reverb. The Blues Jr. is 18 watts and has the Fat switch to give you a gain boost and the Classic 30 is 30 watts and has a footswitchable channel for overdrive. How loud and clean do you need to be would be the question.

Both great amps, that really go well with the Tele - the 30W Peavey will have a bit more clean headroom than the 15 W Fender.
Also consider the Carvin Vintage 16, another amp in the same price- and power-range, that works well with a Tele.

Don't forget the Delta Blues! Another killer Peavey tube amp. The Fender sound is OK but the Tweed Peavay sound rocks!

The Peavey Classic Series, 50's and 30's are sometimes referred to as the cheap mans Dr. Z's , using the EL84's.

These are GREAT amps they sound great and they crank....

My bandmate Matt, has been using Classic 50's for 2 or 3 years now and he also has a Dr Z MAZ 38...I actually prefer the 4x10 Classic 50 over the Z Maz 38..

I think that the Classic 30 is a great Tele amp. You may or may not like the reverb on either amp (I don't really care for either one and I like the Holy Grail pedal better, but that's just me). To me the Blues Jr. sounds just a little boxy by comparison to the Classic 30. I put a Weber California in my Classic 30. Wow! I also prefer the 30 watts.

Thanks for the "poll". I agree that the Classic 30 is a killer little amp! Check it out here;
