I actually live in Escondido, but most people don't know where that is. I'm 66 and I used to play a lap steel when I was a kid. I loved it, but other things got in the way. Fifty-two years later I decided I would get back into it. I have been pouring over this forum for several weeks as I was deciding what to do. During an Internet search I found out that Jim Palenscar has a shop in Oceanside, about 20 miles from my house. I bugged him for a few days, culminating in the purchase of a system today. It is a very nice used Dekley S-10. I hope my old fingers and wrists are flexible enough to learn how to play it. |

Moon in Alaska - Thanks for the welcome, now I do feel a bit younger! However, you've kept your motions going over the years, I need to start over. I have raced cars for years and I still do it. I am sure I can go on for a long time, but I wouldn't want to get started as a beginner at this age.
Nice web site, and a nice PSG clip you have there. |

Thanks for the kind words !!! Yes, I have a little arthuritus [spelling ?] in my hands, but not really bad.
I will say...just sit down every day and play...it will all come back. You can take your time to learn
the pedals and you will be fine.

Jim,
I know where Escondido is since I was born there over 62 years ago, I still have family there. Escondido used to be a pretty active country music area when I was a boy. My mom used to set in and sing with some bands in some of the old honkey tonks. There was a place on the way to Oceanside called The Crazy House where we would try to sneak in before we were of age to hear some country music groups, loud and wild. Good luck with your new steeling activities and my best to you.

Hi Jim,
I too was born in Escondido and played in some of those honky tonks (Spud Nut, Midway Hideout, etc.) Met Sneaky Pete at the Hideout.
I am now in Ontario (just up the I-15). Maybe we can get together for a jam session some time.
North County Steels is a great shop. I'm sure you'll be happy with your gear.
Welcome to the fourm. _________________ Jim Kinley

Welcome Jim! It's good to see others starting their steel career at an "experienced age".... Good luck with your Dekley!
Best regards,
