| When I got my S10 Emmons it was set up with 6&2 and I think a C6 tuning but I changed it to standard E9 . I could never get the 4th E string right so that the C pedal would work . If I have the C pedal pulling the E up to F# my Eb lever does not have enough slack to work , if I have enough slack to lower to Eb , the C pedal won't pull up to F# . I tuned the changer when I did the original set up , what am I doing wrong ? |

You most likely do not have enough travel on pedal 3 to raise s.4 up a whole tone. Lengthening the pedal travel on p.3 should do the trick.

Of course Herb is correct. I would suggest you push the 3rd pedal and check to see if the cross shaft is actually pulling to the stop or it could be that you have the 5th string pullrod set collar too close and the 5th string could be pulling to pitch and stopping the travel of the cross shaft before the 4th string pull is completed. Check the timing of the 4th and 5th string pulls before you change the stop adjustment.

I'm sorry, I should have read the question better. I didn't catch that you changed it over from a C6th tuning so I gave you a pretty stupid answer.

Turn the steel upside-down (in the case, to avoid damaging the tops of the changer fingers).
Make sure that the C pedal crank is in the 'up' position
Activate the lever that lowers the 4th string.
Observe the rod that raises the 4th string, and check that the collar on this rod is not 'bottoming out' on its bell-crank.
If all is well, then you need to adjust the amount of C pedal travel by using the screw (see photo), to get the string to raise a full tone. |
