I've sat in with some guys a couple of times lately and one of the lead players is using an Egnater amp. I had never heard of them before but this one is very impressive. A quick check online shows that they are a boutique amp made by two brothers in North Carolina...and not inexpensively of course.
The guy who owns the one I heard is a multi-stylist and country is not his mainstay but both he and the Egnater amp do a super job of covering country. In fact this amp sounds so good clean that I wondered if anyone had tried one for pedal steel? It seems to have a lot of headroom. After I get to know the guy better I may ask him if I can try his amp out.  |

| Their most powerful amp is 80 watts. If you feel that's enough power for your needs (and you want a botique tube amp), they might work. |

I'm not in the market for an Egnater amp...I'm extremely pleased with my current setup. ( Revelation Preamp through NV-112s) This Egnater is still a great sounding piece of gear however, and an 80 watt tube amp puts out a lot of sound. Perhaps it wouldn't stay as clean with the output from a pedal steel but we were getting really loud the other night and the amp showed no sign of running out of headroom...just bell clear, wonderfully musical power. Obviously the amps weren't intended as steel amps but I'd still like to try it as an experiment.
Info on Egnater seems scarce but the company looks to be undergoing recent changes...there's a different website up within the past few days. It shows an address from Michigan rather than N.C. There is or was an association with the Randall amp company so maybe they're in N.C. Whatever...nice amps. |
