I am the proud owner of this Pro I now. It has been at Coop's shop getting 3 knees added, and from there basically a complete Coop rebuild, superfingers and all. It came a couple days ago, and I finally got to a studio with it yesterday for its recording debut. The engineer (a Grammy award winning one that I will not name because he works with all of us Nashville guys here) just kept playing the first track over and over when we finished it, before we moved on. He just looked at me and said, "Mike, I can tell you this. You have the best sounding steel in Nashville now. Period. Bar none." Granted, this is just one mans' opinion, but one I respect highly. I am very well pleased. It looks showroom new, the tone is just awesome.

I really believe you, Mikey.......because I know you have a Baldwin Crossover and those babies got TONE. So this one must be other-worldly.

Chris, I can see now that we will have to send you a shobud decal to put under your tongue when you have such an attack. I'll get you one in the mail right away!!

Chris, my crossover is gone; another forum member has it, has had it for a long time. This guitar... I used it today over at Larry Marrs place for an od... he insisted I use Duane's Sho-Bud single channel... the tone was... absolutely incredible. I can't wait till my old single channel comes out of the shop...

Hi Mr. Douchette,
I thought the 6139 was called the "Professional" and the "Pro I" came later, but I guess I was wrong. I have an old Sho-Bud 6140 and it looks a lot like what you have, but the body is rounded off a little more and there are no card suits on the front apron. I guess it originally had 6 pedals and 1 KL. By the time I got it, someone had removed 3 of the pedals, and added 3 KLs. It would probably sound fantastic, if it had a better player behind it. (I've got to work on that part!) I'm glad to see that some of these "classic" steels are still being played and heard. |
