Hope you folks are able to open this. I thought you'd like to hear a truly awesome young lady with a steel guitar tone to die for. (She's playing a CANOPUS)...click: (or cut and paste)...[ 4 songs beginning with HILO MARCH]

This tone is characteristic of the Canopus, which has a pickup positioned relatively far from the bridge.
I'm a big fan of Mariko's playing, but still not a fan of the Canopus sound. She has a wonderful touch to get that nice of a sound out of the Canopus. She's awesome... I wish I had that kind of confidence in my pick attack. I wish there were more woman steel players out there too.

Thanks, George! That was a real pleasure to listen to. Anyone know what tuning she plays in? I really enjoyed how full and rich it was. Very Happy

That was nice!
I have to admit I'm not really too much into Hawaiian music (more of a country rock fan here...), but I really like these (particularly the 4th one) - and I think the darker tone is a big part of it!

Well Jeff, you are certainly entitled to your negative opinion about CANOPUS, which I disagree. I have a pile of guitars and I can honestly state the CANOPUS ranks amongst the best of them. I only wish I could figure out Mariko's secret in obtaining such a lush tone !

Gerald...The HSGA should endeavour to obtain her as an honored guest in Waikiki, 2009. She sings, plays excellent ukulele. Her steel work is so smooth and powerful.

I think she is terrific! Really great back-up too. I have no problem with the Canopus sound on this. Reminds me of Alan. If she was to come over, hopefully she would bring her own group with her. Very Happy
