A real nice Sho-Bud Pro 1 just sold on ebay. It was in graet shape and was Birds Eye Maple. The only thing I saw wrong was it had a piece broken off the pick up which I'm sure wouldn't effect the tone. The guitar went for a little over 1,100.00 Was that a good price for a pro 1 ?

John, was that auction under a different topic than "pedal steel guitar" or "Sho~Bud"? I did a completed listings search and found nothing. I totally missed that one. I'd like to take a look. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

The item # is 190103068651
Looks to be in great shape other than the pick up damage.

Thanks for the link, John. I usually keep an eye on Ebay Sho~Buds, but this was under the radar for sure. Someone got a good deal. It's an 80's model, with the modern triple raise/double lower, pot metal, etc. I had one like it, and it's a great little guitar. Some people prefer the older mechanics (I do), but these are great nonetheless. That's a good bit less than what dealers are asking for Pro 1's these days. Nice piece of wood as well. Oh well........by-gones, and all that jazz.

Chris, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about those old Buds.
Tell me...
I used to own a 6139 (bought in 1972). Was that the forerunner to the pro 1? And the only difference being that my 6139 came with only one KL?
Today I wish I still had that little sweetie. Sadly, she went as a trade-in on my 1976 MSA... |

John, that was a sweet deal--it got under my shobud radar, too. HA!! The cool thing about these little Pro I's is they make beautiful conversions with Coop parts.Especially at that price. |

Bent,
Most of what I know about Sho~Buds I've gleaned from James and Coop along with Ricky Davis, Lloyd Green, Bobbe Seymour, Skip Edwards and others who have been more than kind imparting to me their vast knowledge of Sho~Buds. I am certainly not an expert on this wonderful brand of guitar. But I am defnitely an enthusiast.
To answer your question........yes, the 6139 was the forerunner to the Pro 1, and came standard with 3+1. It started manufacture in the late 60's. Toward the mid-70's (notice I'm being generous with the time period ) they started naming it "Pro 1" or "The Pro 1" with a decal, and that model came standard with 3+2.
At one point, they were making the 6139 and the Pro 1 but soon phased out the 6139. (I learned that from Skip.)
Of course, there were all kinds of overlaps. My '76 Pro 1 did not originally have a logo, but came with 2 original knees and no "6139" sticker underneath. So go figure.
The most interesting relationships are the ones that keep you guessing. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

It's listed as "SHOW-BUD SHOW BUD LAP STEEL GUITAR BEAUTIFUL!" so it probably wouldn't have come up under any reasonable search other than "lap steel" _________________ Patrick |

Yes, always check the most likely mispellings if you are looking for something in particular on ebay. Good deals can be had this way as it cuts down the number of people viewing the item and in particular cuts down on those most likely to be bidding.
Looking for a Marshall amp? Check for Marshal as well. Epiphone? dont forget to check epihone or any of the other myriad mispellings on that one. I scored an awesome Gibson Grabber bass for $250. It was mispelled as a "Graber". |

Ok Chris and James I confess
I was the one that actually purchased the Pro 1 but wanted to get some input from some pro's on weather or not I got a good deal.
I received the guitar this past Monday and could not believe what great shape it is in. I couldn't find one bar ding or scratch on it anywhere. The case is also in close to mint condition. The Birdseye maple finish is perfect.
Also included were five patch cords one 20 footer was still in the unopened package ! a small change purse was also included which contained three picks and a steel bar. IMO I think the owner had passed away and the family just brought it to the ebay store to sell for them. I am bringing this little Gem to Tommy Cass (The Master) as I need to have a knee lever moved, new strings, and some tweeking.
Thanks so much guy's for your opinions and although I have three other steels this one may turn out to be my favorite
