I recently moved to Nashville and am trying to find a dobro instructor. I tried the local music stores, but they didn't have anyone they'd recommend.
If anyone has any leads I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Joe:
You may want to reference a similar post at the Jerry Douglas site...
With that said, to some degree it depends on your interests. If you are interested in bluegrass and can do so, I HIGHLY recommend you try to hook up with Randy Kohrs or Rob Ickes. I have never studied with Rob Ickes but I am sure it would be well worth whatever it cost.
I have taken a couple of lessons with Randy Kohrs and I can tell you without any hesitation that watching him play close up was quite an experience. Words won't really do it justice, but suffice it to say that Randy is one of the most powerful and amazing dobro players I have ever seen.
One of the nice things about bluegrass is that the biggest stars are still "approachable" and, as in this case, available for private lessons.
I am quite confident there are other great players available for lessons in Nashville as well. Perhaps Andy Hall teaches private lessons?
Hope that helps,
RobA |

Thanks for the response. I sent both of them e-mails but haven't heard back yet.

Hey Joe -
Have you checked out Artisan Guitars at The Factory in Franklin, TN
They have a couple of guys that teach Dobro. Phone # is 615 595-2544.
They are not connected in any way to the Artisan that sells the little low priced steels.

I would think you could throw a rock and hit one?
That's just me assuming what Nashville is all about.
Try to find one in Boston (like I had to)
