Topic: Stringmaster logo placement question |

I'm putting the new blonde finish on my stringmaster. The guitar had been refinished a number of times before so there was no Fender logo on the front when I started. I ordered a new one.
The Logo on my Sho bud is under a few layers of lacquer. Is the fender logo just on top of the paint job or is it under a clear coat?
Is the logo centered?

It is centered between the two diamonds.
I would say under the lacquer or on top __ both are OK. |

Steve,I would put that decal under the finish,otherwise your just going to wear it off or scratch it,Fender shot laquer over there logos for a reason.

| I just looked at mine and it looks like the decal is on top of the finish but I can't be positive. It's duller than the finish is and I can feel the edges. The guitar is all original, never been refinished. I agree though, a coat or two of lacquer would protect it. |

Hi Steve,
Lacquer likes to eat some kinds of decals so I would suggest a very light coat on the first pass. |

Bob, is correct, dont hose on the first pass, it will probably wrinkle the decal.
I have had good luck with sealing with shelac,to begin with(zinnser clear shelac)rattle can,, the lacquer, will sit on top of the shelac, and the shelac wont wrinkle the decal.
Mark, im pretty sure your decal is under the finish, from what ive heard Fender used about twenty odd coats, and your decal is under the last four or five, thats why you can feel the edges,when the last five passes shrink, its pretty thin, just enough to protect.

| The decal has to go under a couple of clear coats, otherwise it will just tear off in a very short time. Been there and done that. |

There must be different kinds of decals; I have one that's been sitting on top of the clear coat in perfect condition for six years, with no sign of releasing and no tear.
The other has been on top of the clear coat for two years __ perfect condition.
I did however, wait one week after applying the clear coat; then I cleaned that area with alcohol on cotton.
However you do it, make sure all bubbles are out from under the decal and it hugs the surface tightly.
