I have a early 70's session 400 I bought new. Used it as a guitar amp for a while. My question is this: Is a session 400 that old worth any more than a newer one? One note, Scotty brought this amp out to a niteclub I was playing at, told me to use it and get back to him if I wanted it!

I love my S400, used it since new in 74, but I leave it at home now. I lost 35 lbs.. when I switched to a NV112.
I did an A/B between the 2 and dialed in the NV112 to sound as close as possible.. I really don't notice the difference in a live situation.

Ron, a lot of folks swear that the older Session 400 was a better amp. Why, I do not know. I have worked on both and can find very little difference (one capacitor in the pre-amp section).

The older amps also featured JBL speakers and some folks really like them. The amp will put out a true 200 watts RMS, I just benched tested one yesterday at that. A JBL cannot take that wattage. That is why Peavey had to come out with a stronger speaker, the Black Widow. The older ones also sported two 12" EV speakers. I have only seen one in my lifetime. I would like to find one and hang on to it!

I remember seeing Buddy play in stereo thru a pair. One was a single 15 and the other was a 2 x 12 with only one 12" in it. He had a blanket inside it and moved it around to dampen the cabinet.. then he played his tail off as usual.
