I now have 2 more Classic 12 string MSA's One with the plastic MSA emblem and one with a decal. Can anybody tell me about what years the decal was used and what years the plastic emblem were used.
I just passed one guitar on to my my son a 73 MSA. but ran across 2 more and I bought them this year and would like to know when they were made.
A black D-12 that is in great condition but had tuning pegs with a plastic case that all had to be replaced. The guitar appears to have been played very little and still has the original tuning that is in the manual Serial # 2C3016
The other is a rosewood D-12 that at one time was redone by Tom Bradshaw serial # 2C313.
Is there a system to the serial numbers? Where the plastic tuning keys original? This guitar looks spotless underneath !! I keep ending up with MSA's because of price, But I really like them.

Scott....There is no serial number "system" which indicates subtle changes such as decals.

In response to your question.....IF memory serves correct, Grover key company had a fire which curtailed shipment of tuning keys, so we had to use an alternate supplier which resulted in some guitars having tuning keys with white buttons.

Serial number 2C3016 shows to be a black double 12 which left the factory with 8 & 4. Its original destination was our distributor at the time, located in Chicago. This guitar was born on July 19th 1974.

Serial number 2C313 shows to be Rosewood double 12 which also left the factory with 8 & 4 and was shipped to Chicago. The exact date of production on this particular guitar was not entered into records.

Thank you for your inquiries and for being part of the MSA family.

Scott, I'd guess your MSA #2C313 was made in the second half of December, 1972.
