Does anyone know of a source for replacement tuners for a ShoBud Super Pro D10? Are Sperzels still available, and if not, are there any others that are suitable?

Call Bob Sperzel at 216-281-6868 or 216-281-6810, and ask him!

I was about to start a thread on Sperzels myself. In my case, I think I need non-locking Sperzels with the small buttons for a SKH Emmons Legrande. That steel currently has Grovers with the screw-tabs cut off to force-fit, which causes other problems. I think it's clear that non-locking Sperzels are available, since they are apparently stock equipment on Carters, according to their website. But I haven't found any aftermarket sources that actually sell them - all I ever see is the locking versions. I actually have one locking Sperzel on the Legrande to replace a bad tuner, but I don't think it's a very good idea.

So I think some relevant questions are:

- Where can one buy them and how much do they cost?

- Any used ones out there?

- Anybody know some details on these? One worry is that "standard" guitar tuners might not be able to handle the .068 or .070 gauge string for the low C on C6.

Myself, I have not had good luck substituting for Sperzels. The issue is that they are held in place by the mating of a small tip on underside of the tuner into a small hole in the keyhead. Most high-quality tuners are fixed by screwing them into the keyhead - without that, there is nothing to prevent them from rotating under tension of the string. The SKH Legrande keyhead, for example, doesn't have room for any tab-screw mounting, and those Grovers do slip. So I think I'm stuck with Sperzels if I want it to be right.
