This little number features a McKinney lap steel plugged into a 53 Fender Deluxe Amp - and the Goldtone Reso.
It also has a Taylor Acoustic and Fender P Bass.
I called it CRACK OF DAWN because that's when I wrote it . .

The page with embedded file and zippy graphics is here.

The MP3 itself is here.

That was really nice Rick. Great tone from ail of the toys. You can really hear that fat Fender tone.

Maybe those early mornings are good for you.

Rick: Did you use a Open D on the Mckinney? It has a great sound, also is that Fender a tube amp?

I just figured you saw an old HBO show ... "On Location" (circa '76) ...

Freddie Prinze and Friends

And named it after a bit from Tim Thomerson's skit ... Laughing

Thanks G-man! I used to be a big night owl, but now that I'm old I've been keeping farmer's hours.

Thanks Steinar!

Thank You Kay - New Age, hmmm? That's a whole untapped market for me!
Anybody have a list of massage therapists and yoga instructors?Wink

Gary that's E tuning - same thing as D, just up a whole step. The song lays out real nice on it, it's in A and there are basically 6 chords - A, D, E, G, FM7, G6. They can all be played as full 6 string chords with E tuning. I didn't actually do that, but it was nice to know I could have.
The McKinney is a Supro/Oahu clone - string through pickup with Aiello NIBros installed. I love those guitars. A couple of years ago there were a lot of them going real cheap on eBay - as low as $80, and generally no higher than $200.
Now you don't see that so much . .
The Goldtone is tuned to G.
The amp is a 1953 Deluxe, it's the beat up looking one on the right - definitely a tube amp. When I was going to try that combination I figured it would come out more distorted sounding, but it just sounds extra sweet.
Next maybe I'll try a Ricky Bakelite into a Champ!

Rick, I must have missed that one. But knowing Tim Thomerson, let me hazard a guess.
Was there a character in the skit named Dawn?

Took me awhile ... but I hit the jackpot.

Click on tt Standup

It's too big for my dial-up for me to preview/see ...

But I'll never forget the whole routine ... one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Sorry for the hi-jack ... but when you watch this ... you'll see why I commented about "Crack of Dawn" in the first place.

Anyway, great tune and playing ... you have the "gift".

Hi Rick,
Good job on your original tune. I'm glad to see you inspired at dawn. My ears aren't even awake that early! Hope you're doing well.

Well, okay - just as long as it's not spelled D-O-N . .

Rick I checked out that video, but the Crack Of Dawn skit must have been omitted or something.
It was mostly his famous "Stage Coach" skit.
So now that our curiosity has been aroused, it's only fair that you should do the skit for us yourself. Laughing
After all, you did say:

But I'll never forget the whole routine ...

Thanks Chuck! Yeah, anymore early morning is my best time to do stuff. I get tired along towards evening.
It never used to be that way . .

Super job Rick. Glad to have spent a little time with you in Dallas. Wish we could have gabbed a lot longer but what a rush. Take care.

Thanks Phred! It was great to meet you in Dallas and spend a few moments. Things were pretty hectic the whole time, that's for sure. I'll definitely be back next year (I'm a member now), so hopefully we'll be able to hang out a while longer this time.
