Just a joke, Bill. There's room for everyone and I applaud anyone who wants to experiment and push the envelope. The steel guitar as an instrument is kind of stuck in an endless loop of the same material. Like it or hate it, Andrea is playing something new.

Not true about my warm-up Andy.
Here is my typical before-performance warm-up routine.
1. Thoroughly cleanse my body with pure glycerin soap.
2. Soak in a Japanese bath for 60 minutes
3. Lie flat on a Buddhist prayer mat with my head facing east while chanting "sun and moon, sun and moon, sun and moon".
4. Enter into a 30 minute deep transcendental meditation state.
5. Perform a full Hatha yoga routine.
6. Float in a sensory deprivation tank for two hours.
After all six steps are performed in sequence, I then.
Eat a slab of ribs washed down with four fingers of Scotch. Watch American Chopper on my big-screen.
I'm ready to go.

I like avant-garde and experimental music very much, and I especially like what Susan Alcorn and Chas Smith are doing.
I commend our young European friends who are very enthusiastic and showing a great interest in the steel guitar, particularly in acoustic music. It's nice to think of what they will be doing in a few years' time with it. I think the piece by Andrea is a little naive, but it still shows a very young player getting very comfortable on a great instrument and exploring some other possibilities with it. Besides, the video looks great!
Bob Brozman deserves a lot of credit for introducing these young chaps like Andrea, Paolo, Jim Petit and Fred Kinbom (all of whom I believe are in their early 20s) to the instrument and its possibilities.

I watched those two videos you just suggested Fred. They were good - very good. They were musical.
Same guy?
If so, then why did he post the first video most of us ripping apart? If the guy is capable of what you offered... I don't understand.

I'm with you GB, I don't understand either.
Of course there is a lot of far-out music that I don't understand.
You are correct Fred and I will find better use of my time than listening to that stuff in the first part we heard. I though this was a STEEL GUITAR FORUM. I guess I was mis-led. |
