I have just purchased a twin 6 string neck lap steel. My interests are Hawaiian and Jazz. Which tunings would be best for each neck? |

My bias would be towards at least an 8-string approach to jazz. For a 6-string neck, a good tuning for jazz chords would be the Leavitt tuning (lo-hi C# E G Bb C D)
which is an easy retune from C6, and even easier from C6/A7 (C# E G A C E), a tuning some folks use for Hawaiian music.
Mike Ihde, a member of this Forum, would be a good person to consult for jazz arrangements in the Leavitt tuning-- I think he has applied it to some Hawaiian music as well.
Each of the tunings Steinar suggested has potential for both of your musical preferences. Haven't tried the E13 but it looks well suited to jazz.
Eight strings would be well worth a try for you, once you've got the doubleneck rolling. Congratulations on the twins...
