Randy, I have a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 which is a great amp for sure. I do some gigs with it on both lead and steel and it does the job. If you don't have an owner's manual you can go to the Peavey website and download one. I used to have the later Stereo Chorus 2-12 which had digital delay and all in it which was also a great amp........JH in Va.

I bought one of the Peavey 2-12 stereo chorus amps at a yard sale last year for $50. Never been out of the guys house. I loaded it in the back of my car and took is straight to a gig that night and used it for some acoustic instruments with pickups (guitar and banjo) and it sounded nice. I have also used it on some solo jazz guitar gigs and liked it a lot. Only down side is just the size and weight of it.

In a low vol setting I would think it could be used as a steel amp also.

I've used the Peavey S/C-212 as my main amp for about 12 years now. When I first got it, I was drawn by the digital effects. It's got a couple of decent 'verbs, a couple of nice "slap-back" delays, an echo, and a good chorus, too. The chorus isn't of Roland quality, but it's a good second-best. The echo is rather limited by the presets (they only give a couple, either too short or too long for my tastes), but the slap-backs work great. It was really designed as a lead guitar amp, and it shows. It had the typical old Peavey "nasal-honky" character when I got it, but a LeMay mod took the tone from yuck to pretty good. Stock speakers were Scorps, not great for steel, but passable. Power (at 260 watts total) is also good, and an abundance of "overdrive/crunch" stuff occupies the second channel (which I never use).

Had Peavey given it a variable dial for the echo repeat, installed B/W's, and modded the tone circuit, this would have been the best 212 steel amp you could buy. I'm not sure if Peavey offers a mod kit for it (since the amp's been discontinued for years), but if they don't, I highly recommend letting someone like Ken Fox do a mod for you. The improvement it makes is nothing short of amazing.

Later this year, I intend to do a total redesign of the amp and install some Neo speakers, to both lighten the load and improve the tone and dispersion. If Peavey gets their new neos out in time, I'll use them. If not, I'll go with something else that has more bottom than the Scorps.
