Rob Anderson paid for merchandise from us with a fraudulent Canadian money order,
We didn't know him but trusted the money order.

His address is: [deleted by b0b]

If Rob was the victim and unknowingly bought a bad money order from some one or some company, then I need to know this as does he,
We have found his E-mail address and will be trying to contact him this way.
I prefer to think a fellow steel player did this unknowingly.
Stay posted, we'll find out and let the steel community know.

What kind of Money Order?

Canada does not issue Money Orders.

The Post Office does, as do banks and other institutions.

We have a Forum member by that name, but he's in Wisconsin. He posted his phone number here:

I went to my bank yesterday and asked about travelers checks for our upcoming vacation and was told it wasn't a good idea. There has been such a rash of phoney travelers checks that many bussiness owners are not accepting them.

I personally know Rob Anderson and he is as honest as you'll find, and besides, he's too smart to pull a stunt like this. Somehow he got the shaft. I will get in touch with him as soon as possible, if he hasn't read this already.

I called Rob's house but he's at work, so I left a message. I know he will want to get to the bottom of this.

It can happen so easily.

Could be someone masquerading as Rob?

Great show of restraint, Bobbe/Jill, before pulling the trigger. You are to be commended for that and for letting us know about the possibilities of some new scammers.

Plus a close friend picked up to let him know the situation, too.

I've faced a similar situation with someone who actually had a name exactly as mine. It wasn't until the sheriff showed up to arrest me that I became aware of the impersonation. It was slick. Certainly gave the neighborhood something to speculate about for a while. It was embarrassing. Sad thing, the burden of proof fell on me to prove it wasn't me doing the bad stuff. It was aggravating.

Is this place great or what?

Rob called us and is working hard to figure out what happend. It DOES seem as though he is the victim of the politics of these two great countries.
\ This problem is being worked out and what Andy G. has posted seems to be right on. Rob seems like a great guy.

I was informed of this issue this morning and promptly called Bobbe to find out what has happened at his end. I will be back in Alberta this saturday at which time I will get the ball rolling to find out what has happened here. The money order in question was purchased by me at a Canada Post outlet in my neighbourhood as I have done many, many times without problems. I paid cash for the american funds, popped it in an envelope and sent it on it's way. One way or the other I will find out what the problem is, but in the meantime I will find another way to get Bobbe his money owed. I will keep everybody posted on what transpires so this does NOT happen so someone else!

Hello to all,

I have dealt with Rob Anderson for many years now...he has always conducted himself as a very honest reliable & honorable man...

Is the intent of post an acceptable use of this forum?

Inaccurate statements made in haste can be very hard to retract or for that matter, near impossible to make amends for should the inaccurate statement cause needless damage to one's reputation.

Best regards. ..jeff bradshaw

First of all , thank you very much to Andy Greaytrix and Jeff Bradshaw for the kind words. I spoke to the manager of the Canada Post outlet in Edmonton about an hour ago, and she is going to go through all transactions that occured around the time I bought this money order. When the right one is found, we will be able to see exactly has happened here and see to it that the proper corrections are made. It will take a couple of days to find this record so as soon as I know something I will post it.

One of the traditions here at the Forum seems to be giving our colleagues the benefit of the doubt. By posting the problem and Rob's address before ever speaking to him seems to be hedging a bit on that fine tradition. Maybe better to have unraveled the problem privately, then come to the forum with the cautionary tale afterwards.

Amen to that. I think it would have been much better to do this in private, rather than post this problem and by doing so, imply that it was Rob's fault somehow. I don't know Rob and have never even met him, but if others here say he is an upstanding man, then that is good enough to give him the benefit of the doubt, don't ya think?

That was my take on it also. The thread opens with the obvious intent of dragging Mr. Anderson off to the nearest hangin' tree with no thought to due process. I hope we get to find out if, in fact, any "fraud" was even involved...by anyone. To make such offhand accusations is a crappy, classless way to do business.

I once had a U.S. bank refuse to accept a Canadian postal money order for what it was. There was nothing wrong with the money order (and certainly nothing "fraudulent" about it) - it was just unfamiliar to the bank in question, and they attempted to charge the seller a ridiculous premium for accepting what they called a "foreign cheque". The same seller's bank had previously accepted, with no apparent problem, a much larger money order issued by a bank.

I carried a money order from Canada for a month before I found some one to cash it. I think the post office finaly did.
The bank would not take it.
