For those of you who are truly interested in developing playing technique, you might want to give a listen to the current JERRY BYRD 'solo' on the JERRY BYRD FAN CLUB Web Site.
It's a rare occasion, when you can zero right in on the steel player; each and every note; bar slant and/or whatever. There is no accompaniment on this solo so you have that rare opportunity to get the most out of what's there for your ears to hear. I hope you enjoy it.
And by the way, you don't have to want to play lap steel or Hawaiian music, to learn from this very unique cut by The Master.
WHAT Tuning is he playing in? Are those slants forward or reverse? Share your thot's with us.
The second tune is an oldie, with Red Kirk and Judy Perkins from the olde WLW Radio and Renfro Valley Barn Dance era. Likewise, you can hear and learn from this olde Mercury 78 rpm disc..........if you're really sharp about tuning-in your ears.
I'll let you figure out who's playing on the last page with music. |

The "unknown" tune is "Kaua'i Beauty", composed by Henry Wai'au. It's a standard amongst Hawaiian musicians.
The "unknown vocalist" on the About Ray page is Myra English. She's a legendary figure in Hawaiian music. |

Jeff.....thank you so very much for the info'. I"ve been fortunate to receive so many musical donations but they don't always have any identity with them. Not being Hawaiian, I'm obviously lacking in this area and your help is appreciated.
Thanks again, Bob, for your kind assistance. It is appreciated. |
