Does anyone know what years the Sho-Bud single channel amp used the Cain circuit? Any preferences between different years of the single channel amp?
Thanks,
Brad |

Jim Evans or George Lewis of GeorgeL could tell you.I believe Mona Lewis told me it was when they owned ShoBud. I have one and have hung on to it for several years now. It sounds good. |

I've heard that many people favor the tone of the Cain circuit, but at the same time often complain that the Cain circuit overdrives more easily. Anyone??

The Cain came out in 70 or 71 . . . .
Nqw, WHICH "Cain circuit?" There were two input circuits. The earlier ones used an FET with a 22 meg gate to ground. Sometimes, the resistor itself went noisy. Later ones hd a bipolar NPN in that spot. I have one of each. Dunno nothin about any overdriving problem. Nice amps. Not Webbs, but nice amps. |

Im with Chick, overdriving?.
Mine is biased way hotter than Caine specs and, it wont clip BTW its a xmas tree.
Chick are you certain about the 70/71 dates?, I had heard the first ones were 67/68 and, Caine took a powder when Baldwin came on the scene.
A friend of mine has an xmas that he thinks is 67 and, mine is only a few #s away with a 68 date on the power transformer.
That said, I was told try finding a Caine built one rather than a baldwin/sho bud production one?.
IMHO I havent heard any other SS or tube amp that is as sweet.

Lee, I could certainly have the date mixed up a little . . . I drank lots more in my Nashville days than I do now. I thought I got mine in 70, along with Hank Corwin, when Cain was making them in a garage over by the original Hall of Fame. He also made some with the name Cain on the amp. I DO remember picking it u; on a Saturday morning . . .Hank and I drove over together to somwhere around 15th south and McGavock to get them.
Been a long time, and I was likely pretty hung over on a Saturday morning. |

I bought one of the Sho-Bud single channel amps made by Cain in 1971 from Duane Marrs at the Sho-Bud store on broadway.
Great amp. Did develope a problem with a loud hum, would have to turn it off and back on. Took it back and Mr Cain found one of the wires in the reverb had come off and was laying in the bottom of the pan,he fixed it and no problem after that. |
