Interesting. For me, the most notable observation is how quickly MSA has come up to tie for 1st place with Zum. (Of course, this IS Texas!)  |

And the MSA's ARE great guitars. I never owned a ZUM, but I know they are also great guitars. The MSA's have a few more bells and whistles, and the delivery times have been shorter, but with the popularity surge I'm seeing, this could stretch out.

| Jim. I'm not surprized at all. Zum and the new MSA are both extra fine steels and great people to deal with. I like my Zum,but my 73 MSA clasic still looks and plays as good as it did when I bought it and still good by todays standards. |

I was keenly aware of all the different steels that were being played but I couldn't tell any of them apart...they all sounded reasonably similar.
Whether they went through racks and speakers or combo amps they didn't sound much different but they all sounded good. |

| I absolutely see nothing wrong with the new MSA Studio Pro that Jay Dee Maness played on Saturday night. The tone was absolutely fantastic on that guitar. Buddy Emmons played a Zumsteel and it sounded great as well. I personally believe Buddy Emmons could put strings on a washtub and make it sound good. I guess everyone has a different taste for tone and that is one reason why we have a variety of brands to pick from. |

I did't get to all the rooms but stayed in the main hall most of the time. I recall that Jack Evans and Herb Stiener played p/p's and I thought someelse played a Legrand. I only recall seeing 1 Excell. Now this is what I observed in the main room.
A few years ago the Zum was the big power player but that is changing. Each year the MSA gets another well know player into their fold. From what I heard this year from the MSA in the main room sure does get me itchy to try one. Especially the Studio Pro. |

The only Emmonses I saw onstage were Bobbe Seymour's, Louie Hallford's, and my own. I actually saw precious few Emmons guitars at the show in general. Steve Lamb had a woodneck D10 PP for sale, that's about it.
It's a far cry from the era when the brand was omnipresent. But the wheel keeps on turning, as they say, and the old makes way for the new.

Whew. I thought I was tricked again, like when Jay Dee was on a video clip playing his EMCI without the brand name on front, and everyone thought it was a push-pull.

And I do now recall Carco Claveria played a well-used early 70's lacquer cabinet PP on Thursday and also at some jams. So that makes five Emmonses seen in action.

| Herb, that's still a good showing for the Emmons guitar considering the ages of the p/p's. I'm not opinioneated but they still have one of the greatest tones ever invented. |

I'm a GFI player myself. Even though I wasn't at the Dallas show I saw pictures of Norm Hamlet and Ralph Mooney playing GFIs. There were quite a few pictures of Zum players too. I love Zums too, and even though I've never played a Zum, I'd love to. I'd also love to play a Derby too.
