The first 3 Jimmie Crawford transcriptions are now available. I am offering them for Elsie Crawford, to help keep Jimmie's music alive and in the hands of players who loved his music and are interested in his styles and techniques. Doing these transcriptions was truly a labor of love and respect for Jimmie.
#1 is Papaya, the last cut from Jimmie's Ton of Steel Album. There is 6 pages of tab in this one. There is also included a CD of 6 tracks, 3 rhythm tracks at 3 different speeds, and then the same rhythm tracks with steel added.

#2 is Pickin' Pot Pie, which Jimmie wrote and Lloyd recorded. They also performed it together at the ISGC in 2000. It utilizes many hammer-on's and pull-offs and a twin harmony part, which is included. This has 9 pages of tab, and a CD of 6 tracks, 3 rhythm tracks at 3 different speeds, and then the same rhythm tracks with steel added.

#3 is Traffic Jam, Jimmie's original from his CD Through the Years-Among Friends. This piece utilizes some of the open string techniques that Jimmie was noted for. Even though this piece is difficult to play at Jimmie's speeds, the transcription illustrates some of his three-fingered forward rolls. Jimmie performed this at the St. Louis Steel Convention in 2004. There is a 7 pg. transcription with a CD containing rhythm tracks at 5 different speeds, 2 tracks with steel added, at moderate speeds, and a talk-thru track of the rolls, to complement the tablature.

All the tab booklets include knee lever descriptions for the piece and instructions on how to read the Tabledit tablature.
I need to mention that you don't need Jimmie's actual tuning or "Cluster" to play these 3 particular pieces. There are no uncommon knee lever changes. They are written with the 2nd string tuned to Eb, then lowered once (or twice in Traffic Jam), like most of us already do. If you want to know what's used in each particular piece:
Papaya - ABC pedals; lower & raise E's 1/2 tone; Lower 2nd 1/2 tone
Pickin Pot Pie - ABC pedals; lower E's; Lower 2nd 1/2 tone
Traffic Jam - AB pedals; lower & raise E's 1/2 tone; lower 2nd 1/2 and a whole tone.

I have seen the tab and heard the tracks that Fred has done on this project. This is "top shelf" all the way and would make a great addition to anyones instructional library!

I got a copy of "Pickin' Pot Pie" in Dallas at the Jamboree last week, because I want to learn the tune. Lemme tell y'all, this is the best tab I've seen in quite a while. And this is coming from someone who writes tab for a living!
Fred's done a great job with this project, helping steel players get better, extending Jimmie's legacy, and helping Elsie with a few extra bucks.
He deserves our support in this venture.

Hey thanks for the kind words and compliments.
I also checked out your Johnny Bush-20 Intros, Turnarounds and Solos.
This is a great concept, great job, and covered a lot of ground.
Don't you wish this stuff was available when we were just starting out !

You are a true gentleman (and mighty fine joke teller) to help keep Jimmie's legacy alive as well as helping Elsie out. I'll get my order in just 'cause...
