I just read Bobbe Seymour's newsletter today about my good friend Fred Shannon, What a guy!

As Bobbe says, and I can tell you from my experiences with Fred that he has gone out of his way to help a fellow Steel Guitar Player.

That was quite a story about Fred starting your Airplane manually, like the old days.

Thanks Bobbe, for your recognition of Fred in your Newssletter..and also a public thank you , Bobbe , for your contributions to the Steel Guitar World.

Fred and I,have emailed and talked on the phone, many times. And worked together on a single tuning that Fred had developed and had some very good ideas.

As we all know from his posts, he was always trying to help Forum members in one way or another with all his experience and background history.

I must say that I admire, my good friend Fred, for all he has accomplished in his life. Thanks Fred Shannon for all your contributions to this great Steel Guitar Forum, and thank you, b0b for starting this Forum....al. Smile

What can I say. Phred is one super top notch guy!! He has done so much for me in the past, I can't even begin to tell you. Guys like Fred come by only a couple times in a lifetime. From the forum and emails Phred found I was
thinking I might get by Texas to see if
I might like to live there.
Well I ended up in Thailand unexpectedly,
but before I came down SOUTH..

Phred sent me a STACK of CD's
the essential music you must know to
play steel in Texas.
What a mother lode!

I expected 1 or 2 cd.. it was more like a dozen.
What A guy!!
I will make it by his ranch someday for sure.
I'll make the sauce and he'll roast the beef.
Bet I gotta make a barrel of sauce too! Smile

Some of the songs are gonna get remakes
in a project here too.

Fred is the kind of person that from the instant you meet him, you know he is a special human being.

Over the many years we have been friends, I have personally witnessed him displaying exceptional compassion, kindness and generosity to many, while each time expressing his desire to not be mentioned.

In addition, Fred has made exceptionally commendable personal sacrificies in behalf of this great country while being a pilot in the Air Force under combat conditions,......which include being shot down in enemy territory and enduring associated physical ailments yet today.

Were I to go into specifics about any of the things I have mentioned, Fred would go on the "warpath" and have my scalp....and he would do so because he is a quiet and unassuming American Indian who has always preferred to live his life in anonymity.

My dear friend fred, I salute you, admire you, and I'm honored to have the privilege of being your friend.....Last but certainly not least, for those of you who might have guessed, Fred is an exceptional steel guitar player who has done it all.......and then some.

After Fred helped me set up a tuning over the internet and talking on the phone about it his reply was "And you can stomp it cantcha" I cant imagine how many others this wonderful gent has helped.....

Wow, just caught this thread. I thank you for the pleasant words, but the way we treated Bobbe is the way we treat everyone here. My Old Daddy once told me that a stranger is just a friend you ain't met yet and we try to live by that. The TSGA went to a heck of a lot of trouble to get Bobbe down here, we're members of the TSGA and when we signed on to the organization it meant, to us at least, that we would support it. We try to do that.

For you non-pilots I must tell you when DFW airport came into being a tremendous Traffic Control Area (TCA) was established that is a nightmare for general aviation pilots and we knew Bobbe would have to contend with that so we just made it as easy as possible for him to come back and visit "home". We look forward to his coming back too.

Thanks for the kind words, truth and fiction. We also love this forum and we try to support it every way we can. We met a lot of our previous new found friends in Dallas, met a lot of new ones this year and had a great time. We're looking forward to next year in our new home. You're a great bunch of folks. Thanks again for the kind words and Dovie reiterates that.

You can't not love Fred/Phred/Freddie...he used to come see me once in a while when I worked at a music store in Midland years ago, helped raise my spirits when I was going through a rough time, even to the point of helping me research my Indian roots...if there is a bad side to our brother Fred (which I doubt), I don't wanna hear about it.

Fred, you're the Tenahpu Taabe to us. (did I say that right?)
