I finally tracked down Viking Sevenseas NZ Ltd., which owns the master recordings of Dick Sanft's "Totally Hawaiian" LP.

Viking's Website includes a CD by the Tumbleweeds. The cover shows a New Zealand cowpoke playing what appears to be a Bakelite Ric. Anyone know anything about the group? I'll see what I can find out from Viking.

Here's the link:

By the way, in my most recent e-mail I asked Viking if they might consider reissuing Dick Sanft's album as a CD. I'll keep you posted.

Interestingly enough, Sanft's album was recorded in Orlando, Florida in 1978. I had assumed it was recorded in New Zealand, as that is the home of Viking and NZ is where many Tongans go when they need big city resources (Sanft is Tongan).

It's a small world...

Bob - The Tumbleweeds were a Dunedin band, Cole Wilson- guitar Nola Hewitt - vocal Bill Ditchfield - double bass Colin McRorie - steel. They recorded for TANZA very early in the piece, Tanza issued their first recording on Z1 Feb. 23, 1949 and Maple On The Hill was Z 10. Dick lived in Auckland, was one of Bill Wolfgramme's pupils, was on the way up, but did notlinger, next we know of him, he is doing well in USA. Kindest from Kiwiland.

Hi Mac,

Thanks for your response. Very interesting. I am tempted to buy the album. Have you heard it?

Thanks again.
