My vote would be for Tommy Dodd "The Tiger Woods of Steel" named after the "arm in air" emphasis he puts on that last fast note like Tiger sinking a long putt. Hard on "E" strings though - |

I agree that Tommy does a great job picking material, I get sick of the same old shuffles, I like to hear different things. But, I think the most innovative would have to be Randy Beavers. His stuff is technically perfect, and the voicings he gets on the E9th neck is just unbelievable.
Of course Maurice Anderson played a non-pedal set that was fantastic. Its amazing what he can play without pedals. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

Wow, You Guys & Gals, whom were fortunate enough to attend that great show; So I've heard. Whom were the head liners, so to speak? In my estimation, any one of you whom had courage to get up there and play, for all to hear; are "HEAD-LINERS" in my book. I've never been to a large Steel Guitar Show, in my 72 years; 53 of those years, I have attempted to be a Pedal Steel Guitarist; part timer. Would really like to attend one of the big Shows, some year, the good lord willing. Glad you all had a wonderful time.. Steelin' for you..Bernie _________________ 2007 Zum S-10; 1967 Sho-Bud [ D-10 ]; 85 S-10 Sierra; 1953 Multi-Kord [ 6 String- 4 pedals ] A Sho-Bro six String Resonator Guitar; Nashville 112 Amp; hilton Vol. Pedal |

The headliner had to be Buddy Emmons. He could draw a crowd in the middle of the Sahara desert. This was the largest turnout I had ever seen at the Texas show, and I'm sure that was the reason. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

This was my first time to the Dallas Steel Guitar Jamboree and I had a blast. It was good to see my friend John Coop, He is a great Sho-Bud parts builder and restorier. I loved all the performinces
I saw. They all were great. My very most fevorites
Were Ralph Mooney, Buddy Emmons and John Hughey in that order. These men thrill me to death. Thanks to all how worked so hard to put this show on. It was a big success and Thanks to all the Band and all players and to the venders. Leon |

Well, I missed some of the players because of prior commitments, but I caught Reece's set and to say he went out of the box is an understatement. He turned the box over and shook it on non pedal steel. His back up band was one of the best I've ever heard. Tremendous show from a tremendous musician. Anyone who believes the instrument is country only would darn sure change their mind if they were there for this one.

Gotta get in alignment with this Darvin on this one and I truly hope that it sends a message to the "powers that be". Some one asked one time , "what makes this baseball player worth 4 million a year" and the answer is "he puts meat in the seats".........GET IT ????
So, from "Field of Dreams" build it and they will come....I say "book Buddy and we'll all come". I have very high regard for all players , Randy and Russ being some of my favorites.....BUT.....there's only one Buddy. |
