I guess if I were to buy a ticket to something it would be this one;
Two days with four stages with top 40 country, country, alt country, bluegrass, newgrass, cowboy poets and western singers. |

I'd be wearing down the path between the Palomino Stage and the Mustang Stage.

Indio? Someone want to hold a major festival in *INDIO* ?
No disrespect to what I'm sure are great people in Indio, but unless you like Joshua Trees....
I'd have the promoter's head examined.

I love that high desert part of California. If I didn't live here, I'd probably live there. I used to go to Joshua Tree about once a year, usually in the winter, to visit my in-laws.
It might be sort of warm for an outdoor music festival in May, though.

It's a nice area in the winter and early spring, but May might be pushin' the envelope for heat.
Pretty easy from the L.A. basin with what, 18 million population?
Nice lineup, but too busy for me to go that far south that time of year in the nursery industry.
If I had any free flights left on Southwest there's Ontario Airport and rent a car, but alas, I don't.

The weekend before the Stagecoach festival is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the same location now for 8 years. It has sold out the past four years at 50,000 tickets a day. This years three day passes are already sold out.
I guess the promoters decided that since they are making money off the first weekend why not extend it another week and do country.
Also Indio is only a 3 hour drive(more or less) from 10% of the US population. Between LA, San Diego, Vegas, and Phoenix your at almost 30 million.
I just noticed that Willie Nelson is going to be there both weekends, at the alt. rock stage one weekend and the alt. country stage the next.

My comment was more that Indio isn't really a household name, and it's a drive from anywhere (though close to Palm Springs). Alvin's right about the 3-hour circle, though. Hadn't thought of that. I don't normally consider driving to Tahoe from Oakland for music.
But B0b's right about the temperature possibilities. I don't know about May, but in June Palm Springs can break 115 (I've been there for that). Bring your lawn sprinkler!

That's a hot ticket. Between Palomino and Apaloosa stage for me. I think I could live without Kenny Chesney, but Earl Scuggs, Nickel Creek, Ricky Skaggs, Del McCoury, Doyle Lawson, Marty Stuart, and the Flatlanders - I could use some of that action. Doyle was just here, but I was out of town.
Indio is cool, if I could make a living in that part of the world, I'd be there now. I lived in San Diego in the mid 70s, and went to the desert as often as possible - it's a different world, and one I could use some immediate connection with right now. Probably fix my sinuses and lungs up toutes suite.
As they say - 115 degrees, but it's a dry heat.  |
