I just learned about six new highly critical vulnerabilities in the Apple QuickTime player and plug-ins, affecting both Windows and Mac operating systems. If you are using the official QuickTime application you should visit Apple.com using the software update utility and get the newest patched version, 7.1.5. I have posted all of the details and patch download links on my blog entry about the QuickTime vulnerabilities.
The QuickTime Alternative Player has also been updated to version 1.78, on March 7, 2007, whether by coincidence, or in response to common flaws. Download QuickTime Alternative Player 1.78 here. If you use the alternative player/plug-in uninstall the old player, reboot, then install the new version and re-associate the file types you want it to play, using the QuickTime configuration applet in Control Panel.
I have included a description of the recommended file associations for the QT alternative player, on a blog entry about the QuickTime Alternative Player. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
