I have an EH Holy Grail reverb that I bought brand new online months ago... It cooked the original power supply within an hour or two... bought another.. died almost instantly ... bought a third.. lasted maybe an hour or two.. I am now needing a 4th 9v power supply, and the unit has MAYBE 3 to 4 hours "on" time... EH is notorious about NOT giving a crap at all when you have problems with the products they sell.. WHAT can be causing this awful problem in a NEW digital reverb???... any ideas???.. bob

Looks to me like EH is using an under-rated PS, or they are defective from their OEM supplier. At any rate, I would just buy a 9 volt supply with a higher current rating...the heck with their junk! Mad

Bob, look at the EH PS...what is the amperage rating...??ma. And what were the ratings on the new ones that burned up?

edit: I just checked and the PS should be rated at 9VDC at 500ma. Is that the rating on the ones that burned up?

If you don't have original paperwork (the warranty), throw it away.

These things go for under $100 on ebay, and they've got 28 of them on there right now. Rolling Eyes

According to the info I've found, under normal use it draws 220ma., so it should have plenty of reserve power. It sounds like the HG is drawing too much power, and over-taxing the PS. May need a trip to a tech.

My first thought was, just get a "1 Spot" from Visual Sound - they pump out like 1300ma, they never overheat, you can run five or ten average pedals off of ONE, it's that new switchmode technology. My second thought - there's something WRONG with that pedal, why keep feeding it chum unless you know E.H. is gonna pay for it? There's got to be a short or something in there somewhere, enough people love these that they can't ALL be gigging with a dozen spare power supplies each night....

Bob, I suspect your FX unit has a faulty component. It needs to be repaired. No point in using a bigger power supply if the unit is defective.
It most likely has a leaky or shorted cap or diode.

I suggested "tossing it" as that is the safest course of action. A short in a powered device could damage your pickups or other stomp boxes, or it could even start a fire at some point.

If it were something collectible or very valuable, I'd go along with trying to fix it. But with them being so cheap and available, it ain't worth the money or effort.
