What is the standard tuning for either8,10,or12 string superslide guitars? Preferably C6th.I have a couple ideals for the 8,and 10 string set-up,but share your ideals.Thanks. Reece, and Bobbe jump in,and add too. I'm taking my ideals from the standard C6th Nashville set-up. |

Try blowing a set of strings on a 10 string tuning that I really like. It is so simple that it kills me how it is so full flavor. Low to high: E,G,B,D,E,G,B,D,E,G .... The swing tone is so huge. I actually use flatwound strings, here they are great, not usually though. Use Bobby Lee Q's string guage chart to get the numbers. I have 11-54?? I don't remember. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

Hi Kenny,
I'm not sure I see where the tuning goes. Of course we all have intricate thought processes on what a tuning can or should do. Truthfully, I don't know what to do with the F in a C tuning. I played dobro for a few years before I bought a steel. I played steel for 2 or 3 before I bought a PSG. The D above the G will get you an Em7 on top. Have you thought about the register that the tuning will encompass? Look at Bobby Lee's outdated string gauge chart and see if the C tuning will be from low to high or be lowto high to lower than the highest note. Like the E9. Looks really wide. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

With all those strings it would be nice to include some more colorful intervals such as tritone and minor second. How about a Joachin tuning:
G
E
C
A
G
E
C#
B (pitch is between the 3rd and 4th strings)
with more strings added such as high D (maybe on the outside with the high B) and medium-low A. That would be 10 strings. |

Here is a suggestion. C6
from low to high
D F A C E G A C E G B D
For starters, notice the top six strings. There is an instant change from a C chord (the one chord) to a G chord( the five chord) Slide the G chord form down 2 frets and you have an F. Slide the G chord form up 2 frets, and you have an A chord(the sixth chord) There is a Am, Am7, Cmaj7, C add 9, G6. All right there.
Adding the lower strings adds more and more.
Of course there are many permutations. Part of the fun. |

Ron, I see that you have posted what is Reece's 12 string non-pedal guitar tuning. That would be great.
I was looking at some of the different tunings. Maybe Reece will chime in,and offer some words of wisdom. |
