music? In every Andre Rieu performance that I have seen he has some song or music that the audiance knows where they sing or dance or respond to such as the bell song that is on his homecoming video. What do we in the US have that everyone would know and respond to? The songs that I am thinking of would not be considered rock or pop. Maybe popular is the word I'm looking for but not pop.
Thanks in advance;

I don't think we have them anymore. It seems like there use to be a set of children's songs, folk songs, campfire songs, drinking songs, and simple melodic popular songs that everybody learned growing up. Families and friends at parties would gather around a piano and sing together. They were sing-along songs that anybody could sing. Today, nobody knows such songs, and if they did, it would be considered too corny. The pop music these days can only be sung by pros with a backup band with a rehearsed arrangement. Can you imagine sitting around a piano and singing any of todays pop songs from any genre? I guess karaoke is an attempt at a technical fix for the problem. I'm not sure how successful it is. My kids are very good at flipping between radio stations, and they sometimes sort of sing along with the latest hit. But nobody sits around and sings together. I tried it some when the kids were very young, and they liked it for awhile. But they got older and too "sophisticated" for that. It's kind of sad. |

David you got that RIGHT,those times are gone when you would here children sing songs such as You are my sunshine,Home on the range,On top of old smokey,etc,but I bet the majority of third graders today know the lyrics to most of the disgusting rap songs.It is sad. _________________ Hard headed, opinionated old geezer.
