I can't believe I have gone this long without picking up on of his CD's. Should I start with Best Hits? Or Love at the Continental? Or another?

hits collections are spotty, especially in his case. The more obscure tunes he does are the best ones IMO. Just get any of his stuff and you'll want it all.

Keith is right, the greatest hits is spotty.
These are some of Junior's best CDs:

Down Home Chrome
Semi Crazy
12 Shades Of Brown
Guit With It
Long Walk Back
Mixed Bag

On Live At The Continental Club he doesn't sound as good as his studio recordings imo . .

SemiCrazy is one I especially like.

Venom Wearin Denim ...great lyrics.
and the nod to surf guitar is nice too.

He isn't what I'd call subtle - he virtually attacks the instrument - but in a really exciting and original way. Kind of reminds me of Speedy West's go-for broke attitude. Jr. with the Beach Boys on 409 (steel solo at about 1:20, Brad )

12 Shades of Brown is my favorite
"Hillbilly Hula Girl" and "Coconut Island"
are gems in my book.

I believe Jr. uses C13 -- essentially C6 with a high G, and a Bb where the low A would be. I could be totally wrong about that, though, as I'm just going on what I think I remember reading in a Guitar Player article from about 9 or 10 years ago.

He's amazing to watch. Louder 'n hell live, but sure is fun.

Just to clarify things, some of his songs he plays non-pedal and some others he plays pedal steel E9.
