Hi Everyone,

Need a little help here. The link below shows Xavier Rudd playing a Weisenborn. I'm sure the answer to my question is obvious to all of you, but not to me. The question is, how is he muting the strings? When I try to play this, all I get is ringing everywhere! And if I slow it enough to stop the ringing (i.e. lift the bar and block with my two fingers that are behind the bar), it doesn't sound like the song.

Thanks for any help you can give!

He appears to be doing a bit of palm blocking there, using the bottom of his palm to cut off the notes. That's a nice video - thanks for sharing!

Kinda neat stuff...different ! I think he does all his blocking with the right hand....looks that way to me. Also that Digeree Doo (sp?) sure is interesting. It's a traditional instrument down in Aussie - land.

Thanks Brad and George! I just wasn't getting what he was doing.

This guy sure is something. Sort of a one man band. I saw him in concert last year and he's eithing playing a Weisenborn or a guitar and then adds drums, cymbals, voice, digeridoo and god knows what else. He does some of Bob Marley's stuff, but in his own way.

I think it's hard to see because of the position of his hand. He's holding his hand almost parallel to the strings and muting with the bottom of his palm, rather than positioning his hand across the strings and muting with the side of his palm. It looks unnatural to me, but it's obviously working well for him.
