Going to the Islands for some R & R. Looking for a instructor who can teach some Hawaiian vamps and turn-a-rounds. Maybe a hawaiian tune or two. Still a newbie though. |

Kris,
Jeff would surely be da Man to steer you down the Hawaiian avenue (he did say in a previous thread that he would teach "anyone").
You could also drop in on Derrick at Fort St. ...and stand / sit right next to him to catch some stuff. Dropping in on Bobby I.'s gig(s) could do likewise, but likely from a farther distance. Quite enjoyable in either case. You might email Ron Whitfield and see if he can't help hook you up with Derrick and Bobby.
I'm just starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel here (hope it's not another train), catching up on things after 10 year old son Dean's 4 months of critical med challenges & surgery last month. If you desire, I would be delighted to sit with you and help steer you along other avenues ...and a few Hawaiian tunes to show the Maj7 / Dom7 position relationships common in "Hawaiian" voicings and styles (which is about the same approach of other styles, with other favored / recognized musical background influences); And some easy fret-board mental-mapping techniques (very important in cutting throught the "math" and mapping chase): ...and whatever else might come/go around.
We'd be delighted should you (and family / companions) desire some R&R here at the house / shop on the beach in Waialua / Haleiwa, and/or as a planning/provisioning base for North Shore jaunts (beaches better than our's are close by), non-felonous crimes (or YOU pay the bondsman), etc.
Email me at home so we can set some time up/aside beforehand (see profile) ... if you might desire.
Aloha,
DT~
