Now here's something you don't see everyday!
To change tunings just give er a spin. Smile
Hope the link works here. If not, I'll see if I can post a photo later. Photos on Yahoo!

Now that's different. Makes me wonder what brought that design about?

Yes, it's in the 'Hank Williams Boyhood Home Museum' in Georgiana, Alabama.

That reminds me of Tom Bresh's guitar. It is
amazing what humans can invent.

Pappy Neal was a famous Florida Steeler who befriended Don Helms early in his career. His daughter wrote a book about his colorful life. Bob Stone can add much more about him than I.

Hmmmm... makes my head spin just thinkin' about it

Ingenious. The designer was thinking outside the box, even though his solution used one.

Are those fender parts? Or magnatone?

That's a good question Russ. Kind of hard to figure what would be the point in having four necks, or even two for that matter? Hummmm... Interesting. I tend to think there must be some reasoning behind it, but I can't imagine what?

Pappy told me he built "the Contraption" so he could change tunings quickly for radio and stage work. He said he had four different tunings on it. He probably mentioned what they were, but I can't recall.

His daughter, Jaunealya Mc Cormick Sutton, self-published a biography of Pappy called "The Man Behind the Scenes." Lots of great pics with Hank Williams, Gene Autrey, Tex Ritter, Jimmy Bryant, et al.

The last I knew she was in DeFuniak Springs, FL, PO Box 1133, Zip 32433. Best $10 I ever spent.

Early in his career Pappy fronted a group called the Hawaiian Troubadours in order to get around Alabama laws that prohibited Indians from doing business for more than a few days at a time. For a while he was Chief of the Lower Muscogee Creek Tribe, and there are plenty of pics about that in the book. Juanealya did the hula, tap-danced, and sang. Frog Milhouse dated her.

He also ran for sheriff, but didn't win. Hank gave him campaign plugs over the radio.

Pappy lived a full life. He was honored with the Florida Folk Heritage Award in 1994.

There should be some old threads here on the Forum.
