I believe Ralph Mooney also did some work with Buck back in the early days. But Brumley was on Together Again and Cryin Time. _________________ '74 Emmons D10 P/P 8x5,'15 Rittenberry D10 8x5, Peavey Nashville 112, 400 & 1000, Fender Twin Reverb Tone Master, Hilton, Goodrich L120, Boss DD-3 and RV-3 |

Jim Bob,
The original cut of "Palm Of Your Hand" is Tom Brumley. It was cut in the mid '60's. Before Jerry's time. There was a studio cut as well as it being on the "Carnegie Hall" album. _________________ Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings. |

I have the tab in the Key of C..... I believe that Tom Tuned his guitars differently. I lower the B 5th string with my RKL lever. I found this on the net. It is in the key of C#.....I have never played this lick, as mine is in the key of C. If you want what I have I will gladly email you. I think it is much more simple. Also this website has alot of steel tabs:

Thanks Brandon. This is very helpful and appreciated.I also went to You Tube and saw Tom playing Together Again which is very helpful also.I noticed how he plays a lot with just his index and middle finger and leaves his thumb up.Interesting way to play. |

Before you close it...
I haven't heard the Marty Robbins tune in question, but it is on the Essential Marty Robbins boxset, which lists 3 different steel players: Buddy Emmons, James Farmer, and Joe Vincent.
also, I don't think Tom Brumley lowered his B-string on "Together Again"...! _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster |

If you haven't heard it,you should give it a listen. The steel is great.I have that particular set and on that song it says that there is no information available concerning the musicians who played in that recording session. And I got the tabs for Together Again and have figured it out.It was accomplished with a simple slide.I'm practicing it as we write. Thanks for your help.Lonnie |

Tom Brumley used a Fender 1000 on the original "Together Again". He obtained the equivalent of the B to B flat change by engaging his G# to A pedal (pedal two on standard E9th tuning). For instance, in the key of D you would engage your "B" pedal as you roll back from fret three to two on stings 3 and 5 and coming back to fret three. When I interviewed Tom he said it took some time to get used to concert tuning after tuning down a half step to be in tune with Buck......Peter |

There were two versions of Palm of Your Hand. The original was done as a ballad, and was indeed Tom. I recorded on the version that was done as a shuffle in 1973, which was released as a single, and then an album of the same title. The cut is on my website for those who want to hear it.
