Metal Bridge On Superior Weiss

I've read that some folks replaced the bridge on their Superior Weiss with a metal one. What are the advantages, tonal differances, etc? Also, does anyone know if the nut is bone or plastic?

A metal bridge should produce a brighter tone and also an increase in volume.
