Can anyone recomend a good sounding dobro pick-up? I would love to be able to plug straight into my Evans.
Thanks |

I'm not sure about the exact pickup (I'll bet Fishman makes one), but being a fiddle player, I think you'll probably need a preamp in addition to the pickup before you can go into your Evans. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |

The consensus these days is that the Schertler BASIK is the best choice. Tim Scheerhorn and Brad Harper are both good sources of installation info. _________________ Lynn Oliver

What Lynn says is true, but if you aren't in a hurry, try and wait until summer. If the product release is on schedule, there is supposed to be a new reso pickup from Fishman.
Jerry Douglas has been using this prototype Fishman reso pickup that apparently mounts under the saddle, in conjunction with the Fishman Aura system.
I have seen him play twice in the past 4 months-once with Union Station and the other time with his own band, and the dobro sounds incredibly "natural."
If I'm using just an amp, I have a Fishman passive pickup that I run into a Fishman Platinum Pro EQ preamp, and that goes into a 100 watt Carvin acoustic amp. I can get pretty acceptable sound out of this combo.
Running into an Evans or any other steel or electric guitar amp presents additional challenges to get reasonably natural acoustic sound, and another aspect seems to be that they become feedback factories. _________________ Mark |

The Schatten RG-03 dobro pickup is excellent. You can hear it at http://schattendesign.com/resonator.htm (the mp3 demonstration link is halfway down the page).
You would be hard pushed to get this sound with a microphone, let alone a pickup. |

Another vote for the Schatten here. Never been so happy with a pickup till I tried this one.I use it with a LR Baggs pre-amp.
Gigged it a whole bunch and get a lot of smiles from the other pickers! Give em a listen.... _________________ Twang to the bone! |
