I am also new to the PSG. I have played the lap steel 50 years ago and quit after 3 years while in El Paso, Tex. A Magnatone that my mother still has hidden in the dark vaults of her home, where sunlight will not reach it or all of the Harlequin Romance paperbacks that have been read repeatedly by her and my 104 year old grandmother.
The PSG is the most fascinating instrument I have ever seen. I now have a Carter Starter and have been assaulting Amazing Grace, and Sleepwalk repeatedly. I was doing Unchained Melody until my wife mistook it for Amazing Grace, (I'm sure going to miss her. Not really, I don't want to do without her).
I played tabs on the lap steel and then played some in bands in high school and college because I had heard the guys playing in the band usually met girls that wanted to make out. Evidently I was in the wrong band or playing at the wrong dances.
Back to today, I am having a great time with my Carter Starter and even recognize some tunes, and really enjoy the Forum and the information, and understanding of each members searches, endeavers, and tall or small tales. Thank You

Welcome Joe, from the sunny south (27 degrees last nite). The Forum is indeed the place to be for steelers; everything you always wanted to know, & more. |
