Dick Sanft -- noted Hawaiian Steel Guitarist suffers heart attack in Florida.

Word has reached both the HSGA and AISGC that Dick had a heart attack on 1/22/07 and is in critical care in a hospital in his home town of Palm Harbor, Florida. Dick's wife, Ruth, has informed us that he would like to hear from all of his friends in the Steel Guitar Community, so let's all of us send him some "Cards of Encouragement" and hope for a speedy recovery -- and remember him in our prayers.

DICK'S ADDRESS:

I just saw Dick last week, but have been out of town, and then I've been sick with this flu. Oh man... I'm going to call Ruth in the morning. I want to go see him, but being sick, I think I'll just try to at least talk to him by phone.

For the record, Dick is one of the healthiest guys I know. Never smoked. Doesn't drink. Eats healthy. Exercises daily. In short, does everything right...

I've left messages on both Dick's cell and also on their home phone, but haven't heard anything back. I would assume that poor Ruth is just swamped with people calling about Dick, and is overwhelmed.

In any case, I'm finally feeling better, and am going to try to see if I can't try again tomorrow, and maybe try to go up to see him, if he wants that. I know some folks like their privacy, and I don't want to impose on that, either.

Please send cards though, as I'm sure he'll definitely enjoy those!

I just spoke with Dick this morning. He is well and is just back home from hospital, the prognosis is good. He is resting it out and watching his cholesterol intake levels! He is in good cheer and all seems well. He even talked of coming to sunny California to see his son and to pay me a visit when he manages it.

Keep picking, Dick!

I've called his house and cell, but wasn't getting anyone. I'm glad you reached him. I'm sure their phone's been ringing off the hook!

Now that he's home, and it sounds like he's doing well, I'm going to see about driving up to his house tomorrow to visit. I have a steel of his that I've been borrowing that I need to take back up to him, too.
