Fellow forumites I have a problem I can't resolve on the E9th fifth string finger not returning to pitch after depressing the 2-3 pedals (normal A-B).
The string returns to pitch just fine when pressing the number one pedal (Raise on strings 4 & 5) but just will not return to pitch pressing the BC pedal combo.
I've checked for a broken string end possibly jamming the mechanism and can see nothing. I've also used the recommended 3 in 1 oil and actuated the pedals initially and after overnight. So far it has not helped.
NOTE....After tuning with the pedals down with the keyhead tuners they are still in pitch when depressed
again although the open ones again are out.
It has me stumped. From this description can anyone tell what most likely is the problem?
The guitar is an Emmons D10 '69 or '70 all wood Blue Laquer Bolt-on changers 8 x 4 serial# 1543 is at least a 9.5 cosmetically. Beautiful Guitar.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!
Any and all advice will be so much appreciated.
This is my first Emmons and the P/P is totally new to me.
Thanks for the time.

Check that the little wire hook that connects the 5th finger to its pull rod is not snagging.

|
|
Thanks much Richard but as best I can tell, and I've spent a lot of time under it checking various things, the hook is not snagging.
It just acts like something that is keeping the finger from returning is in the changer mechanism although, I certainly hope not.
I can't detect a thing from what I can see.
My first thought was the ball end of a broken string but there is none there. At least nothing is visable.
Many thanks again. Any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Mr. Jerry Roller has graciously offered to guide me through some troubleshooting steps.
Thanks Jerry.
I will be checking out all the things you recommended and will advise you of the progress and success if any.

Do you lower your 5th string?
If so double check the lower. Jerry will have you up and running in a few minutes if you call him. |

Hello Justin,
Thanks for your input and Jerry is trying hard to straighten out my problem.
I don't have a lower on the fifth string, just a raise on pedal one and on pedal three.
I know Jerry comes well qualified to solve changer issues and hopefully I can follow his instructions to the letter and resolve this mind boggler to me.
Sure is nice to get volunteer help from those who know how to solve perplexing problems.
I have learned a lot just from reading forumite's posts but as yet certainly not enough.
Thanks much to you all for your kind offers of help.
b0b Please close this one as the problem is solved. Thanks especially, to Jerry Roller, Frank Parrish with whom I communicate occasionally, and all of your generous suggestions to help.
After checking out all suggestions and much trial and error the pull rod collars were the problem and are now properly adjusted
no excuses for the wrong note now!!!
Again thanks to all for all the help.
