Not a thousand steel guitars at NAMM, maybe 20...actually about 8 maybe 10: lapsteels, weissenborns, dobros, pedal steel. There is also a Chinese model selling for $42! Goldtone Korea are making a few attractive models. A Norwegian company , G#, have made a mini-lap steel (can fit into a suitcase). Nice tone, easy to play. The Guitar and Ukulele company of Wahiawa were displaying two lovely 6 string models and I met the luthiers who were advised by Bobby Ingano. Sweet sounding instruments and great people. They will do custom. Nice to see steel guitars now being made in Hawaii ( plenty of ukes at NAMM). Also tried out the Carter pedal steel, great tone and range of tones, easy to play.
I took my own lapsteel to the show and tried out a few amplifiers and accessories, jammed a couple of times, really had a ball. Back to the show today..
Great stuff!
PS: Thanks for the tip, Marty. |
