Eric;
ZoneAlarm is a major firewall and is often updated by ZoneLabs to meet new threats, or to continue to function with new Windows Updates that may change the rules for Kernel Mode software.
That said, you would be advised to visit the ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm forums to see what other users are reporting about issues they may encounter after upgrading to a new version, or sub-release. Some of these updates have gone badly and caused a lot of missery for a lot of users. It may behoove you to wait a week or two before updating, to let them fix any bugs that are reported on their user forums.
Aside from buggy releases that need to be patched, most updates are important and useful, and should be applied sooner or later. If a Windows Update changes the way your firewall works in a negative manner, and you don't install an update from the manufacturer, your firewall may fail to protect you, with or without notifying you. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
